These are the things you need to know when looking for a second-hand Kia Soul. This is a used Kia Soul EV buying guide. This article will cover the 2014-2019 Kia Soul electric vehicles. Actually, we can separate the vehicle versions into two by manufactured years. 2014 Soul EV, and 2017-2019 Soul EV. Before starting this guide. Here is a detailed specs report of both.
Two battery sizes available
There are two versions of Kia Soul Evs. You’ve got the 27 kWh battery pack. and, you’ve got the 30 kWh battery pack. according to any DC figure which is not that accurate. one of those all do 132 miles on a charge. the other all do closer to 155 miles. you can probably shave off 20 miles off each of those figures to get it accurate in all honesty. but what’s great about all-electric Kia Souls? the level of kits they had a standard was fantastic.
The heat pump as standard, the reversing camera as standard, DAB radio, the 8-inch screen inside, recycled organic materials used inside the car. It’s a fantastic little beast.
Size comparison
I got them next to one another like this. first things first. I really think this hasn’t aged. I think you could have brought this one out today. and it would look just as modern and funky. it’s just slightly different this one’s a bit more aggressive. this is ever so slightly taller than the Algol car it’s ever so slightly longer in overall length. and it’s ever so slightly longer in wheelbase. but the width remains the same. 1,800 millimeters without the mirrors.
That’s the same as the old car. the biggest change really is obviously aesthetics but also the battery pack and the driving trade. it’s a far quicker car and it’s a far longer range car.
Demographic of buyers
They’ve sold over 1.6 million of those things in the US. and that’s because it was designed in America and it was starred really for an American market. whereas in Europe and in the UK especially. although they thought it was going to be aimed at younger people. it’s actually more of an older person that tends to be attracted to him.
In the same way that honda. sell the jazz to octogenarians when they actually intended under 24-year-olds to drive them. Doesn’t matter really. the point is a very successful car and for many good reasons. especially the electric one.
2020 model = EV only in UK
You can buy this car as a piston car as a diesel. as petrol. and also as an electric. you can buy that as a piston car in other countries but in the UK the new soul is EV only.
Wheels and eco tires
Ok so now we’ve done the sort of size comparison let’s get this one out of the way and focus on this one/ I actually think it’s a fine-looking car 16-inch wheels with these kinds of arrow covers which are white, not to everybody’s taste. I quite like them with your efficient tires which I think are Michelin energy. Yes Michelin Green X optional two-tone but you can only order the old soul in three colors.
Color choices
Caribbean blue great song by Enya with a clear white roof that looks a bit smurfy. snow white pearl with an electric blue roof. or this one which is probably the most sort of graceful color titanium silver premium.
Engine bay
They’ve all got the white plastics inside and they’ve all got the grey cloth with the eco blue stitching. look at that I do love a plastic cover on top of an electric motor now as with all-electric cars there’s actually not that much to check when you look in for one-second hand and when you’re maintaining it as a normal person.
all you’ve got to really do is pop washer fluid in which is here keep an eye on the Masterson. in the brake fluid level and obviously keep an eye on the normal coolant levels. it’s a liquid-cooled battery pack and the battery pack lives under the seats.
Tech specs
These were 109 brake horsepower I think there was 81-kilowatt motor 0-60 mph was about 11 seconds. these were not quick cars these were reliable cars and they were very comfortable cars. but they’re not potent in terms of performance. they’re more of a cruiser.
Boot space
The Kia Soul EV has a smaller boot than its sole piston brothers and that’s because some of the high-voltage EV gear are stored underneath near the chassis. it does have a two-tier system though under this trapdoor. you got the red cabled charges these came with the sole originally.
so check that you have these when you’re looking to buy one this one’s for you your normal charge point. and this is your 3 pin granny chargers they call it. and that’s key writing as well so check those this is two 284l. it is smaller. as I said then the piston car it’s also smaller than the new soul which is 315l. but it’s not that bad. it’s just a little bit inboard.
Back seat space
I quite like the shape of it. it’s almost a flat floor entry. and you’ve got this neat little parcel shelf. yeah, nice. bit of fabric look when the sole came out an electric form. it was known for having quite an eco interior this is organic and recyclable foam fabric carpets and some of the plastics as well. so it was actually quite ahead of its time. it’s just a bit nicer and a bit more different to leather on board of leather. so people that know me will know.
I dig a bit of interesting cloth the floor is almost flat. it’s got it has got a small transmission type hump here. but nothing too noticeable. remember because this is the EV version and the batteries live under here. this has raised the flora by 80 millimeters compared to the piston car. which means tall people like me sit with their legs quite higher.
I can’t rest my legs here if that’s a problem for you. and you have a lot of people in the back of this car then you must consider that it could be a deal-breaker. another thing to bear in mind which is pretty good is all souls of five-seater. so you’ve got a middle seat at the back here a lot of EVs are four-seater these days. you know I remember a few people saying that they thought that the sole interior was a little bit soulless.
Dashboard
I know this one’s maybe a premium car. but it just I think looks great it’s got the white plastic kind of surround for the infotainment. and down by the gear shifter and that’s a conventional-looking gearshift. and not the rotary one that’s in the 2020 car. and then you’ve got the steering wheel controls. which are laid out nicely cruise control. you’ve got a Bluetooth phone. your dolls haven’t dated actually as much as the central infotainment system.
you can see got your power and you regen here. and your battery status here. your range and then on the right is the speedo. maybe the middle of the binnacle air is a little bit old-fashioned. and this infotainment this 8-inch screen here. it’s probably showing its age slightly. but it’s not offensive and it just works eco level and history. so this car has only really used for shorter journeys. most of the time. and look at the miles per kilowatt-hour for six and a five-point, four-point eight four point seven.
you know this is all really efficient and that is the equivalent of your miles per gallon. in car terms and piston car terms but anything over four is really good you got this cold dimple in the center of the dash actually which has these child lights on. so when you plug the car in to charge easy the status lights.
in some ways, the plastics on the old car probably feel a little bit nicer than the new car. it’s got a leather trim steering wheel. but I think that’s probably the only bit of leather in it. and then you’ve got these speakers up on the little pods on the top of the air vents. I mean I really think this is a great piece of design still so no I don’t think it’s aged much at all got a heat pump a standard really efficient HVAC driver only.
Cabin storage
Fans lots of places for storage binnacle in there with two cigarette lighters and one USB. and one. the quite keyless entry got your heated seats great heated steering wheel you got your da B. so actually a lot of tech going on and that’s possibly why that is in the combination with the fact.
Price guides
that it has a seven-year warranty. so even if you buy this car at five years old. it’s still under warranty for two more years. and that’s probably what helps to keep those residual prices quite high. they don’t actually come up for sale that often. because they didn’t sell a huge amount probably about a thousand of them in the UK.
as a consequence the residuals are high and you’ve got a really act quickly. if you don’t want to buy the car yourself you can always ask somebody to buy it for you. somebody like Jonathan Porterfield from eco-cars dot net. who I’m going to speak to very short for his pearls of wisdom on buying this particular version of the song Mr. Porterfield from eco-cars. now you can use that if you want with a jingle one thing.
